A bit about Dry Eye

I know when my eyes feel dry, but before I started working for an Optometrist's office, I didn't really know what dry eye actually WAS.
Now that I've been here for a while and have some wonderful resources, I know a lot more than I did before. Here's what I can tell you!
It all comes down to tears - our eyes NEED tears to be properly hydrated so that they stay healthy and that we are comfortable. If your eyes don't produce enough good quality tears, you may experience dry eye.
Why does this happen? Well, there are many factors that can contribute to dry eye - Age can be a factor, as can our environment (especially why it is dry, like Fairbanks is), what we do during the day (staring at a computer a lot, like I do), certain diseases or medications, medical conditions like entropion (where the eyelids turn inward). Note that this list is not exhaustive, but just a few examples.
What does dry eye feel like? People that experience dry eye may complain about stinging or burning, altered vision, watery eyes (ironic, isn't it?), and more.
Does this sound familiar? Come visit Clear Vision Optometry! Our wonderful staff can evaluate you and offer treatment options for Dry Eye!
